Definition

Toner - A special type of ink used by copy machines and laser printers. Toner consists of a dry, powdery substance that is electrically charged so that it adheres to a drum, plate, or piece of paper charged with the opposite polarity. For most laser printers, the toner comes in a cartridge that you insert into the printer. When the cartridge is empty, you can replace it or have it refilled. Typically, you can print thousands of pages with a single cartridge.

Ink Cartridge - An ink cartridge is a replaceable component of an ink-jet printer that contains the ink and sometimes the print-head itself that is spread on paper during printing. Inkjet Cartridge - A replaceable unit that holds ink and the print nozzles for ink jet printers. A separate cartridge for each of the four CMYK colors is the most efficient. Low-cost printers include cyan, magenta and yellow inks in one cartridge, requiring the entire unit be replaced when one color is empty. The least efficient is a single cartridge that contains all four colors.

Printer Ink - A semi-solid quick drying ink made especially for use in printing.

Laser Toner Cartridge - Replaceable, recyclable, and reusable component of a laser printer used to form images on paper. It consists of a rigid plastic housing containing graphite and plastic ink powder, a metal fuser roller, and a synthetic felt wand.
